I acquired this rifle in 1982 and have hunted with it since. It was handmade in FN's Custom Shop and engraved by Jos Baerten, FN's former master engraver (his signature is visible on the photo of the L side of the action. Cf. bottom, outer R).
A few years later I had it scoped with a Swarovski 1,25-4x24 "battue" scope (circle dot reticle) in Shler claw mounts. Used in drive hunting with hounds, it is perfectly adapted to (very) fast offhand shooting of running game at ranges of 5-100 m. The power of the 9,3 comes in handy for 2 reasons : 1. this kind of action shooting doesn't always allow for perfect shot placement, so some extra power makes up for the difference ; 2. the game bag is mixed and one never knows what's going to come out : Red deer, Wild boar, Roe deer, Mouflon, Fallow deer or fox. Critter weight goes from 11 to 550 lbs. and they all flee with hounds in hot chase behind. Adrenalin fuelled animals can be amazingly hard to stop ; another reason thus for using as powerful a round as the 9,3x74R. So far this rifle's personal tally amounts to 77 heads of assorted big game.
